The Season of Lent at St. Timothy’s –
The season of the church year entitled, “Lent” begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18th. It is a season of 40 days that reminds us of the 40 years spent by God’s people and 40 days spent by Jesus in the wilderness. Wilderness images abound in the Lenten season. At the same time, in the history of the Christian church, Lent is the time we prepare for or prepare to remember our Baptism. It is a time to remember who we are and whose we are. It is a time to return to the Lord acknowledging where we have been and focusing on where God calls us to be. Certainly there are harsh realities to face – times we have strayed, when we have chosen our own way and not God’s way for us. But there is also great reason to rejoice! God has not strayed from us! God’s way of love, grace, forgiveness, hope and LIFE will prevail in and through Jesus Christ!
We are particularly blessed this year to be a part of that very intentional Holy Baptism preparation time for a number of people God has led to St. Tim’s. These newcomers to our community will boldly ask to join us, and we are invited to welcome them with our whole hearts, pray for them in their journey, and be inspired by the Spirit’s movement in their lives.
Come and prepare this Lenten season. Come and remember who you are as a beloved child of God!
