New Book Study Coming This August 2018!
As we anticipate a new year of journeying through the Bible in worship, you are invited to participate in a conversation about the beauty and challenge of the Old Testament. The book we will spend some time learning from, talking about, and, perhaps, critically engaging with is, “Getting Involved with God: Rediscovering the Old Testament.” The book is written by Ellen Davis, a brilliant Old Testament seminary professor, who says of the book:
This book is about getting, and staying, involved with God – what it takes, what it costs, what it looks and feels like, why anyone would want to do it anyway. It is at the same time a book about reading the Old Testament as a source of Good News and guidance for our life with God.
As always, ALL ARE WELCOME! The study will be offered on Monday mornings at 10 and Thursday evenings at 6 beginning on August 6th and August 9th. We will cover the same chapter at both the Monday and Thursday evening gatherings so feel free to come as you are able. Books are $12 and available for purchase in the church office. However, please do not let the cost get in your way! Scholarships are available upon request.
Thanks be to God for this opportunity to learn, to grow in faith, and to be inspired by God’s Word!
In Christ, Pr. Rachael
Final Worship Series of the Summer: Generosity
After a wonderful few months of studying the 10 commandments, the book of 1 John and the book of Ruth, we will conclude our summer worship series with the topic of Generosity. Beginning on Sunday, August 19th we’ll spend three weeks hearing from Matthew, Mark and Luke three different perspectives about generosity and the life of faith. In a time of fear, anxiety, and feelings of great scarcity, it will be a gift to discover or rediscover together what God has to say about “treasure in heaven.” How might this change the way we think about what God has entrusted to us?
