I’ve been a part of St. Tim’s for about 18 months now and I can tell you one thing I will never say again, “But, I’m only…” Just think of all of the ways one could finish that sentence. “But, I’m only one person. I’m only a pastor/businesswoman/receptionist/mom (fill in your vocation here).” We do that. I’ve done that. But after being a part of St. Tim’s I understand by saying that I’m really disrespecting the power of God. Made in God’s image, with the Holy Spirit alive in us, none of us is “only” anything. I have seen one person, one small team working for God’s purposes, do amazing things.
This coming Sunday, a member of St. Tim’s stewardship team is going to stand up and remind us of everything we’ve been a part of lately as a community of faith. He’s afraid he can’t list in five solid minutes all we’ve been doing together. The point of this is not to gloat about how great or how righteous we are, but to live in the humbling reality that God does incredible things through all of us, each and every one of us, and it has nothing to do with achievements, status or numbers.
“We’re only a small church…” I don’t think so.
See you Sunday…
